WITH A career that spans half a century, Lesley Manville has triumphantly surpassed her contemporaries and etched her name into acting history.

Currently on stage in Robert Icke’s Oedipus in the West End, Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer on Apple TV+, The Critic in UK cinemas and soon in Luca Guadagnino’s next feature film, Queer; the British actor is far from easing off the gas – in fact she’s in the fast lane.

For GLASS’ Autumn Issue, she sits down with us during rehearsals to reflect on her favoured ability to never be typecast and her knack for staying at arms-length with all her characters.

Inversion….Caught….something changed, it is the opposite of what it was before, something turned upside down….
“We created two contrasting characters, one with clean, raw make up with a subtle glow, natural healthy skin.
The other in contrast as an opposite, using much darker make up application, applying a thick gloss with an art sponge, which was then moved around with dotting tools.
This method creates a sense of unpredictability and imperfection in the outcome of the application, as well as a sense of fragility which amplified the identity our darker character,” – Alet Viljoen

FOR THE first time in its history, Alexander McQueen is creating conceptual films with the help of famous friends close to the House in a new series that they are showcasing over the course of this year and next.

Built around one of the British brand’s key accessories, the Jewelled Satchel is the star of the debut short alongside Scottish musician, model and frequent collaborator Lucia Fairfull.

Lucia Fairfull Alexander McQueen

Filmed at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow and lensed by legendary British director Sophie Muller, the video sees Fairfull explore the venue of her hometown and go onto perform with her band Lucia and the Best Boys.

With this being the first venture in the world of McQueen through a talent’s eyes, we are looking forward to uncovering more of this collaboration as it unfolds.

IN HONOUR of last October’s unforgettable SS22 womenswear collection inside a transparent dome in East London’s Tobacco Docks, Alexander McQueen has unveiled a special short film in collaboration with British Grammy-award winning director Sophie Muller.

The collection, entitled London Skies, took inspiration from the brand’s view from their headquarters looking over the capital watching its backdrop continually alter as the day went on, every single day.

AMQ SS22 FILM HERO IMAGE CREDIT SOPHIE MULLERStill from London Skies by Sophie Muller

Inspired by the idea of storm chasing, Creative Director Sarah Burton decided to mark the beginning of the new season with a film that captured the idea behind the spring-summer 2022 collection. Choosing to collaborate with Muller on this project, every little detail was meticulously thought-through.

The models chosen to feature were handpicked due to their shining individuality, that like the clothes they are wearing and the sky behind them, they are unique and ultimately unified.

“I love the idea of embracing the mystery and unpredictability of the sky, the fact it is always moving, always changing, I look out over London from our studio where the views are incredible and represent our home throughout history: from St Paul’s Cathedral to the London Eye,” explains the designer.

“The sky against which those familiar monuments appear may be calm and restorative at times and menacing at others. For me, the tension between the two is extremely inspiring. It also evokes the paradoxes that have always been at the heart of Alexander McQueen”.

Following a stellar cast in the campaign, Ulman herself, Emmy award-winning actor Jharrel Jerome, Greta Hofer, Nyaueth Riam and Xu Meen set off on a summer adventure trekking across idyllic holiday locations.

Encapsulating the ethereal essence of the warmer months with the injection of rebellion as the campaign hints at the endless opportunities awaiting them.

This idea of escapism is brought to life through Comte’s outlook on architectural plasticity as diagonal lines and geometric backgrounds are enhanced though his well-known saturation and colour tints balancing vintage references with the contemporary spirit embedded in his subjects.

The film, on the other hand, shot by Ulman is titled Hotel Splendid takes a softer approach emphasising relationships and the soft hues of summer light.

The cinematographic techniques used in the film highlight the details of the collection placing a strong focus on accessories; from showcasing the bohemian clogs with the Gancini buckle, the woven mules to the new bucket bag addition to the Ferragamo brand, the Trifolio.
