LOUIS VUITTON has recently announced their latest addition to their ongoing collection, Fashion Eye, with world-recognised photographer Martin Parr for a new book titled United Kingdom

The collection looks into the representation of various countries, regions and cities through the lens of a chosen photographer, with names such as Cecil Beaton, Harley Weir and Helmut Newton as part of the extensive list of established artists who have joined the House on this endeavour since its debut in 2016.

Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye: Martin Parr Book

The new iteration by Parr sees a hardcover book washed in a light pink with the photographer’s name stamped in bold. The book features 118 pages, within which the reader can indulge in imagery taken by Parr between the years of 1998 and the current day.

Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye: Martin Parr Book

The book depicts various patriotic British-themed images, such as a hairy neck with the words “English and Proud” tattooed across it, amongst many others portraying people and places from all four corners of the United Kingdom.

A true depiction of Parr’s attitude and feelings towards his country, the latest iteration of Fashion Eye captures the working class, the ordinary, and even sometimes the aristocracy going about daily activities such as picnicking, attending a wedding or enjoying a dip in the sea.

Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye: Martin Parr Book

The book further sees images illustrating the face-off between the Glastonbury Festival and the Coronation Party, while arbitrary shots such as a black sheep, a white hat and a pink meringue add bursts of colour to the pages.

Each leaf of the picture book hosts full-bleed images in a landscape layout, ensuring each turn of a page is impactful. A recurring symbol throughout is that of the Union Jack, gesturing toward Robert Frank’s The Americans alongside an umbrella — a necessity to all UK dwellers.

Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye: Martin Parr Book

The mischievous tone innate to Parr and his work is evident throughout the book. The photographer, who has been behind the camera since the mid-70s, doesn’t seem to grow tired of his people-watching as one detects his ceaseless passion for travelling and exploring British terrain.

MIU MIU has unveiled their first Literary Club, titled Writing Life, a two-day event delving into the works of Sibilla Aleramo and Alba De Céspede while encouraging conversations and hosting live performances and entertainment.

The event is a means to display the brand’s dedication to contemporary thinking, taking inspiration from literary salons, artist collectives and the consideration of women’s lives throughout history to the present day through the written word.

The novels promoted during the Literary Club will be Aleramo’s A Woman, initially published in 1906, and De Céspedes’s Forbidden Notebook, published in 1952.

The two books, although half a century apart, exhibit the power of writing and its long-established abilities to aid women’s expression of desires, thoughts and ideologies, helping them gain a sense of independence as they continue to inspire future generations to follow suit.

Miu Miu Poster

The event encourages the understanding of history and education paramount to Miu Miu’s distinct identity as well as the lives of today’s women. Taking place will be a series of panel discussions and performances — made possible by writer and researcher Olga Campofreda — delving into women and their societal positionality, exploring themes of motherhood, family and career.

In conversations about creative and daily lives, contemporary authors will be in talks with the literary greats of the past to elevate the future. The panellists that will be present are Pulitzer Prize winner, Jhumpa Lahiri, Italian writer and Strega prize finalist Claudia Durastanti, critically acclaimed writer Sheila Heti, Italian writer and 2011 Campiello Opera Prima winner Viola Di Grado, Booker prize long-listed author Selby Wynn Schwartz and Xiaolu Guo, the Chinese-born British novelist, memoirist and film-maker. Moderators will include writer and curator Lou Stoppard and author, presenter and journalist Zing Tsjeng.

Throughout the afternoon guests can enjoy poetry and reading sessions alongside musical performances.

A cultural affair, the Miu Miu Literary Club is an exploration of the arts. For those interested in picking up a copy of A Woman or Forbidden Notebook, the novels will be available at the event wrapped up in elegant Miu Miu packaging.

by Nicole Pereira

Writing Life will take place at Circolo Filologico in Milan on April 17th and 18th between 3 pm and 9 pm.

LAUNCHING its latest, limited-edition fanzine, Bottega Veneta continues to spotlight the importance of print publications in a progressively digital world. Depicting the creative process behind Matthieu Blazy’s spring-summer 2024 collection, the zine celebrates physicality and imagination.

Featuring photography by Alec Soth, the four volumes of the zine showcase behind-the-scenes images, sketches, stickers and a travel notebook to transport readers to the campaign shoot in Tokyo.

Bottega Veneta SS24 Fanzine

Set across playground locations in Tokyo, the campaign is centred around various structures in the shape of animals, rocks and mushrooms. Whimsical, fun and ethereal, the images echo Blazy’s interest in craft and adventure.

“When I encounter Matthieu’s work, I am in two worlds simultaneously,” explains Soth. “One is profoundly physical – a world of craftsmanship that engages all the senses – and the other is the stuff of dreams. My guiding approach to the campaign was playfulness. The playgrounds felt like a metaphor for Matthieu’s imagination. I wanted to bring the same spirit to my pictures.”

Bottega Veneta SS24 Fanzine

Bottega Veneta SS24 Fanzine

Alongside the campaign imagery, Volumes 2 and 3 of the zine come with a sticker set portraying motifs from the Tokyo playground structures, pieces from the SS24 runway and vintage travel graphics.

Bottega Veneta SS24 Fanzine

“Summer 24 is an Odyssey,” says Blazy. “It is a journey that is both free and hopeful. A connection to who you once were, who you would like to be and where you want to go. The fanzine allows any reader, anywhere, to join that journey, and to imagine and record their own escapes and adventures – whether in the world, or their creativity.”

As Bottega Veneta’s fourth fanzine, Summer 24 will not only be available in Bottega Veneta stores, but also in a selection of bookstores. The zine will be stocked in Reading Room and Libreria Bocca in Milan, Yvon Lambert and Cahier Central in Paris, Climax, Claire de Rouen and the ICA bookstore in London, Lulu & The Beanstalk in Dubai, Strand, McNally Jackson and Mast in New York, Still Books, PDF and The Phrase in Seoul, Tsutaya Books in Shanghai and Komiyama, Watarium and Tsutaya Books in Tokyo.

The brand is also hosting an Alec Soth exhibition – running from March 29th to April 14th – at Seeen, 1F/B1F Jingumae Shibuya-Ku, Tokyo. Titled Tokyo Playtime, the exhibition will feature the campaign imagery alongside more of Soth’s eclectic compositions.

SCANDINAVIAN brand Filippa K collaborated with photographer J.H. Engström on a limited edition book titled It’s Been 30 Years to celebrate the brand’s thirtieth anniversary.

The book features unpublished imagery from the Swedish photographer alongside photographs of recently captured archival garments from the brand. Liisa Kessler, the Creative Director of Filippa K, was appointed her position in 2021 and explains that much of her inspiration derived from the brand’s early work from the 90s and Engström’s book From Back Home.

Filippa K x J.H. Engström Book

The idea of publishing a book as a commemoration of the milestone came to fruition through conversations between the creative director and the photographer, who states that From Back Home was his effort to explore the memories of his childhood and delve into the places and spaces that shaped him.

Engström’s conversations with Kessler regarding these themes, alongside those of time, place, energies and expression, provoked the initiation of It’s Been 30 Years.

Filippa K x J.H. Engström Book

Engström was given complete creative freedom to express both artists’ origins and reflect the language of Filippa K. The book is a collection of images demonstrating a selection from the brand’s archive picked out by Kessler.
