AFTER travelling through the infectious energy and colour of Tokyo, I arrive at my residence for the next few days, a stronghold of glass panelling and earthy hues that fuses modernity with complete serenity. I’ve arrived at the Shangri-La Tokyo.

Lobby
The collective’s premier location in Japan, the hotel occupies the top 11-floors of the Marunouchi Trust Tower. There’s no denying that this is a haven for business travellers, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t amenities for vacationers like myself searching for a moment to exhale.

Piacere restaurant
The Shangri-La Tokyo sits upon a crossroads of old and new, natural and man-made, with views that expand across the business district, past the Imperial Palace and right up to the snow tipped cap of Mount Fuji. A timeline of Japanese history unfolds in front of me and creates an almost cinematic element to my stay.

CHI, The Spa
Relaxation is exemplified at the spa and health club, which aside from hosting one of the most impressive pools I have ever seen, champions an unfaltering dedication to the wellness of guests through the promotion of ancient Japanese and Asian healing therapies. A true Shangri-La for weary bodies indeed.

Presidential Suite bedroom
And what better way to decompress further after a day of exploring and learning than in one of the hotel’s restaurants. Both at Nadaman, a Japanese kaiseki restaurant, and Piacere, a which boasts a classic Italian menu, I am treated to a confection of delicious food. Although surrounded by an outlet of incredible cuisine in the city, the hotel certainly makes a case for guests looking to dine in-house.
