DECADES of history alone makes Great Scotland Yard a one-of-a-kind hotel and being tucked away on a quiet road just down from Trafalgar Square, it’s an extraordinary property within the heart of the city.

Upon arrival, dressed in traditional Police inspired uniform are the concierge team, who greet me with a warm welcome. Once home to the Metropolitan Police, the property’s stories and memoirs are celebrated throughout the hotel, with antiques and bespoke artwork taking over the walls.

King room

The unique character of Great Scotland Yard is transferred from the lobby to the 158 rooms and suites. Thoughtful restoration balances the traditional qualities of a classic British townhouse with modern influences.

My cosy room is surrounded by elegant furnishings, featuring a comfortable King bed and luxury bathroom. For me, the bathroom is the jewel of the room as I have never seen a more inviting walk-in shower.

Whisky tasting at Síbín

Away from their lavish rooms, the ground floor of the hotel is host to a range of appealing dining options. From old Nordic cooking techniques by Michelin starred chef Niklas Ekstedt at Ekstedt at The Yard, to afternoon tea at The Parlour.

The most memorable being the illicit speakeasy bar, Síbín. Hidden in plain sight behind a bookcase wall, this whisky bar set in a sophisticated room is a relaxing space for evening drinks and intimate jazz nights.

Cocktail at Síbín

Whisky masterclasses are what they’re known for here and Ivan, our whisky sommelier for the evening, guides us on an inquisitive odyssey. “The Explorer,” is a masterclass which takes guests through the origin and stories of whisky, unveiling global flavours from a carefully curated selection from Japan, Mexico and Scotland to name a few.

After finishing our enlightening expedition, we enjoy the rest of the night filled with music and cocktails in the chill out lounge, before heading back to our room for a peaceful slumber.

POSITIONING health and wellbeing at the heart of the guest experience, The Dorchester has just unveiled a new collection of wellness treatments for 2024. Famed for its expansive menu of pampering experiences, The Dorchester Spa continues to impress with its sparkling offerings.

The Dorchester Spa

To start, MLX quartz beds and Welnamis relaxation beds have been added to the spa. The MLX Quartz Beds – influenced by ‘Psammo Therapy’ – provide a cocooning effect alongside gentle gravity inversion, which promotes soft spinal stretching and anti-inflammatory action.

The treatments offered are predominantly centred around sound healing techniques, with singing bowls bringing therapeutic benefits and tranquillity. Guests can also enjoy a poultice massage, which further detoxes the body from stress and worry. Based upon healing traditions from Egypt, Morocco and Japan, the treatment beds are certain to ease and revive after a long day of work.

The Dorchester Spa

Meanwhile, the Welnamis relaxation loungers situated in the Relaxation Room tap into similar audio-centred treatments. Known for its Binaural Vibro-acoustic treatment experience, Welnamis invites guests into a meditative landscape via multi-layered binaural acoustic audio.

Proving to support the immune system function, reduce stress, regulate sleep patterns and reduce signs of chronic pain and fatigue, Welnamis offers four programmes – stress relief, mindfulness, PowerNap and Awareness – for a customised guest experience.

For those opting to try one of The Dorchester’s treatments, visitors will be delighted to hear of ishga‘s arrival at The Dorchester Spa and The Spa at 45 Park Lane. Having previously been introduced at The Spa at Coworth Park, the Scottish natural seaweed brand prides itself on organic, sustainable skincare. Signature ishga treatments include the ishga poultice massage and the ishga detox body wrap.

The Dorchester Spa

Alongside ishga, Carol Joy London offers an array of science-led, results-driven skincare products. Harnessing the power of ingredients such as Golden Millet Oil and pure collagen, Carol Joy’s Diamond Facial and Oxygen Facial treatments rejuvenate and refresh the skin with the help of nutrients and antioxidants.

Similarly, Valmont’s cutting-edge products and techniques deliver undeniable glowing skin and a nourished complexion. Signature treatments from the brand include the Valmont Elixir des Glaciers – an indulgent offering featuring two cleansing sessions, three massages and four masks – and the Valmont Lift from the Peaks. The latter of the two concentrates on alleviating stress in areas prone to wrinkles and toning facial muscles.

The Dorchester Spa

Finally, Dr Gout – a world-renowned pioneer and thought leader in evidence-based aesthetic medicine – has introduced her unparalleled know-how to The Dorchester Spa with an exclusive residency. Dr Gout has curated a LAM Luxe menu of treatments for the spa which focuses on “revealing your unique and natural beauty whilst making you look and feel your best.” From pore-refining facials to anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Gout’s treatments are known to promote radiance, boost collagen and sculpt the face.

After enjoying a treatment, visitors of The Dorchester Spa can settle down and enjoy a selection of healthy snacks. Teresa O’Farrell – global head of wellness and spa for The Dorchester Collection – has worked alongside on-property chefs to craft a wellness menu of revitalising culinary delights such as seared salmon, a rice paper rainbow vegetable wrap, a berry bowl or a wind-down salad.

Intertwining inner healing with external wellbeing, it’s evident that The Dorchester Spa is an oasis of peacefulness in the bustling metropolis.

WHEN one thinks of luxury hotels, it’s only natural for Four Seasons to come to mind. Having opened its first property in 1961, the Canadian-based company has taken over the world with its sparkling resorts.

Offering delicious cuisine, spacious rooms and unparalleled service, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has mastered the art of hospitality. And upon entering Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane, the company’s commitment to care becomes even more evident.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

As one of its three UK-based hotels, Four Seasons Park Lane boasts an impressive location. Based in the heart of Mayfair, the hotel underwent a series of renovations in 2021, which further transformed the London location into an oasis of luxury. A

s we enter the lobby, opulent chandeliers meet plush red furnishing and a grand piano in an effortless display of elegance. Meanwhile, gentle murmurings from Pavyllon London – the hotel’s Michelin-star restaurant – float through the air.

I leave the lobby with high expectations for the rest of my stay and ascend the hotel’s eleven floors to reach my suite – one of Four Seasons signature Junior Conservatories. Stepping foot into my abode for the night, the hotel’s art-deco aesthetic and sophisticated interiors immediately make me feel at home, not to mention the ground coffee and British cream sweet treat to enjoy upon arrival.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

From a minibar stocked with some of the finest snacks to a private balcony overlooking London’s iconic skyline, the hotel has it planned to perfection. Embellished with delicate minutiae such as lacquered walnut wood panels on the wall and crispy soft linens, I’m ready to settle in for the night. However, not before visiting the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

Helmed by Chef Yannick Alléno, the acclaimed French three-starred chef, Pavyllon London received its first Michelin star this year – just six months after opening. But this is no surprise for Alléno. Widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious chefs, Alléno holds 16 Michelin stars across his 17 restaurants. Alléno has worked tirelessly to reinvent modern French cuisine since setting his sights on being a chef at the age of eight. And it shows.

Opting for a steamed comet cheese soufflé as my starter, the restaurant’s unique gastronomic approach is clear. Smoky, soft and flavourful, the soufflé pairs perfectly with its celeriac sauce. Calling upon a plethora of techniques such as extraction, fermentation and cryoconcentration to extract distinct flavours, Alléno’s craft and expertise are exact.

For my main, I choose Pavyllon’s green lasagne with Bolognese and a Parmesan cheese crust. Providing hearty comfort and familiarity, the main course goes down a treat. But make no mistake, this is no ordinary lasagne. Having been carefully adapted to exemplify the restaurant’s culinary prowess, the dish intertwines the Parmesan’s sharpness with tender meat to create a delectable outcome.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

Following the main, Pavyllon’s staff recommend the Berries “Méli-Mélo” with sugar-free meringue. Combining lemon verbena with Génépi jelly, vanilla cream and sorrel sorbet, each mouthful is a burst of fruity fresh goodness. An ideal light denouement to the meal.

Regarding cuisine, it would be rude to not mention Pavyllon’s breakfast menu. After indulging in a peaceful night’s sleep, what better start to the morning than an abundant breakfast offering? It’s impossible to resist with fresh açai bowls, chia puddings, waffles, pancakes, savoury sandwiches, and more on the menu.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane

Expressing the extent of Four Seasons’ attention to detail is difficult. As I leave the hotel feeling refreshed and invigorated, the hotel manages to deliver across all fronts.

From intimate private chambers to the staff’s holistic warm-heartedness, it truly epitomises luxury generosity. Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane is truly a sanctuary of respite in the heart of the bustling metropolis.

LE PETIT BEEFBAR, which resides on the cosy street of Cale Street in Chelsea, will transport you to Paris with its inviting ambience and delectable menu.

The restaurant is part of the well-recognised Beefbar restaurant collection and brings its guests an elegant yet comfortable spot to indulge in its broad menu.

Steak

Created by Monaco-based restaurateur Riccardo Giraudi, Le Petit’s atmosphere is sophisticated, chic and warm, with red and orange dim lighting, luxurious interiors and attentive hospitality.

The restaurant offers new ways of interpreting classic breakfasts, brunches and Sunday Roasts curated by Head Chef Jordi Sebastianelli alongside their daily À La Carte menu.

French Steak Frites and Sauce

The menu on offer has several standouts, such as the Croque Sando, which is an innovative take on the classic French Croque Monsieur and the Sando with its velvety dry-aged beef ribeye prosciutto and mozzarella and the Miso Black Beef, a beefy version of the favoured black cod.

The traditional French Steak Frites and Sauce dish is elevated at Le Petit with their La Sauce Beefbar, made from butter, herbs, truffle and extract of the Sauce Originale Relais de Paris alongside its luxurious presentation of fine-cut steak on a silver plater above a candle lit warmer.

Cocktail

As for their starter menu, the dishes are designed to be shared, with the must-try dishes being Jambon d’entrecote, Relais Shawarma, Baby Quesadillas and Plant-Based Bao, as well as the Caesar Miso salad.

For those who follow a keto diet, Le Petit offers various options in line with the lifestyle, and for those who are vegan, the restaurant has partnered up with Redefine Meat to create a meat-free dish titled Redefine Steak Frites.

Interior

Alongside the tantalising menu, the restaurant offers a decked-out bar with a French retro ambience, a perfect setting to try their cocktail menu with a conversationalist of your choosing.

To name only but a few, the Beefbar Mezcalita, with Lost Explorer Mezcal Infused with Pineapple & Rosemary, Yellow Chartreuse, Fresh Lime Juice, Limoncello and Agave Syrup, or the Est! Est!! Est!!!, with Plymouth Navy, Monkey 47 Sloe, and Antica Formula, are going to have you coming back for more.

Le Petit brings elegance and luxury to the traditional steakhouse and a dining experience that is refreshing and new, ensuring your endless visitation to the quaint restaurant in scenic Chelsea.

OCCUPYING a building originally known as Macy’s, The Beaumont has become a renowned 1920s-inspired hotel in the heart of Mayfair, London.

Despite adopting the sophisticated flair and style of the early 20th century, the hotel is deceivingly intimate with just 50 rooms and 22 suites/studio. Having reopened its doors in 2021 after an array of refurbishments, I was fortunate enough to visit The Beaumont a few weeks ago to gather all the latest insight into this storied establishment.

Exterior of The Beaumont

Marking a new chapter for the Mayfair-based hotel, French designer Thierry Despont and London architects Reardon Smith joined forces to renovate and refashion areas of The Beaumont.

With an impressive slew of accolades under his belt – including the restoration of the Statue of Liberty, being a part of the Architectural Digest AD100 2023 Hall of Fame and possessing a Legion of Honor – it comes as no surprise that Despont’s refurbishments are impossible to critique.

Upon entering the hotel, guests are immediately greeted with Despont’s redesigned lobby. Choosing to keep the lobby’s distinctive chequerboard floor and Cherrywood panelling, Despont opted to add gold-on-ivory Pierre Frey curtains alongside reupholstered velour sofas to create a refined atmosphere.

Lobby

Le Magritte Bar – the hotel’s seductive American-inspired bar – has also been expertly redesigned into a 30-seater standalone bar. With the drinks reflecting the Jazz Age-inspired interior, I instantly felt like I had travelled back in time.

To further this sentiment, the former bar space at the hotel’s heart has been transformed into a new dining area. Named The Gatsby’s Room, after F. Scott Fitzgerald’s hedonistic protagonist, the space has been decorated with walnut-framed sofas, mahogany tub chairs and soft lighting fixtures.

Le Magritte Bar

To further usher in a new era for the hotel, Despont has invented fresh spaces for visitors and guests to enjoy such as The Terrace, a new venue which offers al fresco drinking and dining. With shelter and heaters with a view of Brown Hart Gardens, The Terrace is a perfect grazing spot to enjoy drinks and bites throughout the day.

The Terrace

The Beaumont’s head chef, Ben Boeynaems, takes great care with his gastronomic delights. I visited The Colony Grill , a true destination eatery, to sample Boeynaems’ menu of transatlantic favourites and was particularly impressed with all the locally sourced ingredients and the generous sized portions.

The Colony Grill

As part of the many refurbishments, Thierry Despont also designed the ultimate Art Deco dreamscape – The Mayfair Suite. With the ability to be reconfigured into one or two bedrooms, the suite is filled with custom-made furniture and decadent embellishments to echo the holistic style of the hotel.

Room

For those hoping to enjoy some relaxation time, The Spa has been refurbished with the addition of an extra treatment room and a larger gymnasium. Alongside a steam room, sauna, cold plunge pool and traditional warmed marble hammam massage table, as a result, I was immediately overcome with peace and tranquillity.

Spa

Considered a historical landmark in the heart of London, The Beaumont is a must-visit for 2024.

HAVING spent the past 30 years catering for the Oscars party, Wolfgang Puck is renowned across Hollywood for his infallible culinary expertise. This March, the infamous chef has invited 45 Park Lane’s executive chef, Elliott Grover, to join him in showcasing British cuisine.

Celebrating classic gastronomic delights, Grover will cook three signature British dishes, which will be presented on the biggest night in cinema.

The dishes include roast beef with a wagyu roasted Yorkshire pudding, creamed horseradish and watercress, a prawn cocktail roll with beluga caviar and Marie Rose sauce and native lobster ‘fish and chips’ with a spicy tartare sauce.

45 Park Lane Oscar Celebration

To mark the occasion, London’s 45 Park Lane will host a special exhibition by celebrity photographer Andy Gotts. Bringing Hollywood glamour to the luxurious city location, the exhibition will showcase a selection of notorious award-winning actors’ portraits. Titled ‘…And The winner Is…LA LA LAND?‘, the exhibition is a must-visit for film and art cognoscenti alike.

Similarly, Elliott’s Oscars menu will be available to experience at 45 Park Lane from January 23rd to April 1st, 2024. Hosted in the eponymous BAR 45, guests will also have the opportunity to try a new cocktail: And The Winner Is… Expertly crafted by bar manager Enrico Perri, the beverage consists of Campari with pickled red pepper, sweet Vermouth, clementine liquor with Kaffir lime leaves and Champagne.

Since joining 45 Park Lane as executive chef in 2022, Elliott Grover has proved his dedication, commitment and care to his practice.

Speaking on his partnership with Wolfgang, Grover said: “I am incredibly honoured to be bringing classic British dishes to the Oscars for a second year with Wolfgang, especially celebrating his 30th year cooking for the awards. And to present the dishes here at 45 Park Lane from January alongside Andy’s incredible photography will be sure to bring a taste of LA to London”.

Intertwining the glamour of the Academy Award’s annual Governors Ball with 45 Park Lane’s sparkling surroundings, it’s clear that the hotel’s guests and the Oscars attendees are guaranteed the ultimate dining experience.

LOCATED just a stone’s throw from Covent Garden lies the iconic NoMad London – a World’s 50 Best Hotel.

Taking residence inside the grade II listed building known as The Bow Street Magistrates’ Court, the hotel is renowned for its sparkling suites and dining venues – including Side Hustle, its lively bar.

Set within the walls of the former Police station, the award-winning bar calls upon flavours and spices from Latin America to provide an eclectic, playful cocktail program. Now, more than ever, people are ushering in the New Year with Dry January.

But Side Hustle has taken this into account. Having just released a new selection of alcohol-free cocktails for this season, Glass went to sample the bar’s non-alcoholic cocktail menu.

Interior of NoMad’s Side Hustle Bar

Opting to collaborate with Three Spirit for the range of beverages, it’s clear upon entering the bar that we’re in good hands. Three Spirit utilise a range of complex processes such as maceration, fermentation, distillation and osmosis in order to create the most luxurious alcohol-free plant-based spirit alternatives.

To start, I decided to try N/A Manhattan – a favourite amongst visitors to the bar. Made up of Three Spirit Nightcap, Amarena cherry,  cold brew, maple and verjus, I was immediately impressed with the perfect elixir.

Another standout included the El Diablito, which consists of ginger, hibiscus, lime and London essence club soda.

For those concerned about the lack of alcohol, the flavour and fullness of the drink make up for its absence. The ginger provides a gentle warmth which mixes beautifully with the hibiscus and lime to create a playful, fresh beverage.

After enjoying our first drinks whilst absorbing the bar’s classy surroundings, we moved on to our next drinks – a Smoked Apple and an Agua Fresca Roja.  The Smoked Apple was particularly intriguing and definitely one to try.

Calling upon its Latin American influences, the drink was made up of Three Spirit Social Elixir, chipotle meco, green apple and also Idyll wild apple soda. The name of this cocktail is certainly not to be overlooked. The smokiness of the chipotle meco meets the freshness of the apple soda for a delightfully refreshing result.

Our final drink, the Agua Fresca Roja, was another hit. With Three Spirit Livener, hibiscus, chai, Greek yoghurt and orange, it’s clear that the bar team have put endless thought and care into their new cocktail classics.

For those taking part in Dry January and wanting to treat themselves to top-quality drinks, look no further than Side Hustle. With the non-alcoholic cocktails costing £11 each, the bar is a must-visit for your next central London night out.

PUNK and good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll is at the very heart of Chateau Denmark, the 5* hotel that sits on Denmark Street, London.

In location, look, and stature, music is part of the DNA of this hotel, after all, it has drawn influence from the area’s rich cultural, and musical heritage, amongst the publishers, musicians, studios and guitar shops; and then there’s the liveliness of Soho just beyond.

Spanning 16 buildings along and in the vicinity of Denmark Street, the hotel also has its very own hotspot—its award-winning bar, Thirteen, where baroque and gothic charm collide in an oh-so-alluring and dark setting.

The sexiness doesn’t stop there, as the hotel has exciting news: it has officially opened the former home of the Sex Pistols and turned it into one of their signature suites with a very apt name, ‘I Am Anarchy’, of course. Situated in a mews house that’s tucked away just behind Denmark Street, yes, it’s true, it was a former home of the Sex Pistols.

And this just adds to the “good times with bad company sentiment” vibe and appeal of the hotel. Carrie Wicks of Chateau Denmark says, This apartment is a culmination of patience and punk, because like punk culture it is complex. We’re very pleased to return one of London’s most storied landmarks to the scene.”

A place that was a flurry of activity, it’s thought that, by the grace of Malcom McLaren, the Sex Pistols lived, rehearsed and recorded in the mews house located behind No. 6 Denmark Street. It’s played host to a whole host of sessions, including one that saw Johnny Rotten make his very own mark on the place—quite literally—as he took to the walls to draw caricatures of himself and his fellow band mates; ever since, a lasting mark was left on the street.

As you may have guessed, it’s also where they recorded demos for two of their tracks ‘Anarchy in the UK’ and ‘Pretty Vacant’.

As for its location, the Signature Suite is set back, and even features its very own private courtyard, enabling guests to sleep in a little piece of history. As Carrie says on the experience, As a collection of rooms and apartments, we’re able to provide a very unique experience for those looking for something different.”

As you’d expect this duplex mews house is kitted out in full rock ‘n’ roll aesthetics, and as such there are tartan and sheer blinds, along with upholstered graffitied chairs for punk assertion. The living space has been re-imagined and is upstairs—and it’s where the Johnny Rotten etchings reside.

Carrie says, The drawings on the walls from the former occupiers, the Sex Pistols are very bold. There’s so much history in the building. So, whether you’re a fan or not, the experience of waking up, or staying up in I Am Anarchy is something special. From the discreet private entrance to the exclusive courtyard and the bar – each is enough to set the imagination racing, it’s certainly not to be missed.”

The suite comes complete with kitchenette maxi-bar (obviously), along with statement furniture, curiosities, art (cute Michael Prescott’s ‘No Future’) and objet d’art, in ode to the building’s history, and punk culture. The bedroom, which is downstairs, dons a black Murphy bed, with marbled moulin noir bedsides.

Other standout features include the 65-inch screens that house thousands of hours of playlists and entertainment, and of course, a sound system to match, courtesy of Void and Artcoustic. It’s certainly a must-stay for Pistol aficionados, creatives, and punk lovers alike.

TUCKED away from the hustle and bustle of Whitechapel is East London’s’ secret spot, Hyatt Place London City East. Known for its brilliantly curated art of local creatives, the property does not fail to deliver on authenticity.

Just a few steps from the infamous Brick Lane, I arrive at Hyatt Place London City East. Upon entering, I am immediately immersed in variety of art commissioned by the hotel’s General Manager Michael Mason-Shaw who curates the unique art gallery, “Curated at Hyatt Place”.

Lobby

As someone who considers themselves as an art-lover, I was in sensory overload, but in the best way. The hotel oozes with pieces from London-based artists such as Sam Kerridge, Lothar Götz, Olly Fathers and Jay Kaes, along with floral designer Elizabeth Marsh and textile designer Ellen Russell – they immerse you in the city’s famous street art scene.

Whilst I take a moment to unpack and refresh in my room, I am struck by the views across the capital. The private outdoor terrace from my room is the perfect spot to enjoy the picture-postcard views of the world-famous London skyline, and I already know where I will be enjoying my morning coffee.

I head down through the layers of art to the restaurant, Zoom East Kitchen & Bar. Promoting an excellent selection from Sicily, brought to life by head chef Vittorio Meli. Dishes are inspired by carefully handed down recipes from Vittorio’s family, creating a heart-warming menu that is authentically Sicilian and honestly local.

The Beef Shin Ragu Arancini, Sardine Beccafico and Cous Cous Alla Trapanese are not to be missed, and of course we couldn’t leave without a traditional Cannoli.

After dinner, we head up to the ninth floor to get a taste of PocketSquare’s expertly crafted signature cocktails and enjoy the rest of the evening in the rooftop oasis.

Drawing inspiration from the city’s diverse history and cultures, the cocktails are created with an East London twist and when combined with stunning views of the London skyline, makes for a perfect end to the evening.

And with a super-comfortable bed waiting for me, I know I will have a truly deep and relaxing sleep, ready for the day ahead.
